Build A Better Roanoke

Issues & Priorities

  • Addressing the alarming 34% increase in two years is a critical priority. It is imperative that we cap year over year increases and lower costs for Roanokers now.

  • Creating a walkable city is a key issue and priority for our urban development agenda. Enhancing pedestrian safety by constructing additional, safer crosswalks throughout the city is essential. Furthermore, we aim to designate commercial zones and construct additional concourses, improving the navigability of downtown areas and neighborhoods, fostering vibrant, accessible communities for all residents

  • From rezoning out of use commercial property, to responsible development. People want to live here, but can’t find a place to live.

We need to set hard goals of units being transitioned or built per year, and let people become Roanokers’, and relieve the costs of a housing shortage for renters and homebuyers in Roanoke.

  • Provide city residents with accessible, free parking options downtown by revising zoning regulations and constructing additional parking garages. These strategic initiatives aim to alleviate financial burdens for residents while simultaneously boosting downtown business activity, fostering a thriving urban environment for all.

  • Work with RPD to create designated operating areas throughout the city, to increase their presence and deter violent crime.

Increase Police Officer pay to help fill staff shortages, recruit, and retain the officers already serving.

Increase the number of social workers that work with the RPD, to aid officers in mental health and domestic situations.

  • Our region has the talent, but no place to build their ideas. We need to invest and plan for shared enterprise workshops, innovation centers for transportation and the emerging Biotech industry. Give the people an opportunity to build the future they want.

  • Modernize the public facing communications of the city, make interactions with the city easier for residents.

Feedback Loop, engage residents at the neighborhood level about their expectations and how the city can better serve them

Increase help portals and online infrastructure, make it easy as possible for citizens to engage in city business.

  • Our schools, staff, and educators deal with enough problems on a daily basis. The City needs to keep funding our schools at current levels and continue the work to make our classrooms the best in Virginia.
